Fossil
Shell Flour has been used for horses since it's inception. It
has been used on race horses, show horse, hunting horses, and horses of
every purpose.
The
are several ways that DE can be used on horses.
-
Fossil Shell Flour can be used in their feed as
an anti-caking agent. If feeding grain, add 2% DE (roughly 1/2 cup) to
feed.

A light dusting of the stall walls and barn with
D-20 insecticide will greatly reduce the fly population.

Fossil Shell Flour can by placed in the pasture
"free choice" for horses while grazing.

FSF or Perma-Guard Pet and Animal powder
can be "dusted" on the coat and rubbed in by hand to eliminate pests

Equitana. She said that she would find a horse using E3, and tell us
the results; this is what she published in the AWB Whisperer:
"The AWS National Breeding Director, Nikki Atwell, purchased a TB mare
that was underweight and in the last trimester of her pregnancy in
1997. This mare ate twice as much as all the other horses and would not
gain weight. The foal was born and they both were underweight.
The E3 Aphanizomenon flos-aquae (AFA) was started as soon as it arrived
to help the foal and the mare gain weight soon after the foaling. After
a couple of months the mare gained weight while nursing a now, large
foal, and again in foal herself. Our Vet couldn't believe the

improved, hoof wall improved dramatically, but the most noticeable

Update: 1/23/99
I have always shoed this horse every 6 - 8 weeks. From the time I put
him on E 3 , his hoof has gained at least ¼" new material on the medial
side where it had fallen off previously. The new growth is
unbelievable! Very pliable, good quality, supple horn material. This
foot started out where I could not drive in a No.5 slim. The sole of
this particular horse was very dry and brittle. After E3 , the sole was
apple-peel consistency. No more hard brittle, hard-to-work with sole.
